Massage Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What can I expect for my first appointment?
A: When you arrive for your appointment, you will be asked to fill out an in-take form with general health questions. Massage may not appropriate for people with certain medical conditions. We will discuss which therapies would best achieve the results you want from your session. It is always important that you ask any or all questions you may have before, during and after the session.
Q: Do I need to get completely undressed?
A: No. For a full body massage, some people undress completely, and others leave their underwear on. It is important to undress to your personal comfort level. Your comfort and safety are my biggest concerns. I will leave you in private to undress. You will be covered (draped) with a sheet at all times during the massage. Only the area being massaged will be uncovered. Once the massage is over, I will leave the room again so you may get dressed.

Q: Should I wear jewelry during a massage?
A: I do not recommend you wear any jewelry or bring anything of value with you for your session.
Q: What should I do during a massage?
A: Please make yourself completely comfortable. Most people just close their eyes and relax during a session. This is your massage, do whatever feels natural for you to relax.
Q: Is massage painful?
A: Massage shouldn't be painful or hurt. Some therapeutic massage techniques, such as deep-tissue work to an area, can cause slight "discomfort". The level of discomfort should never turn into pain and the therapist should be informed immediately if that occurs. At that point the therapist will adjust the pressure to continue the treatment. If any part of your massage doesn't feel right to you or if it is painful, please let me know right away.

Q: What if I fall asleep?
A: It is not uncommon to fall asleep on the massage table during a session. This is your massage, do whatever feels right for you.
Q: What should I expect afterward?
A: Massage and bodywork can affect all the body's systems. Most people feel completely relaxed, while others feel energized. Please take your time getting up and give yourself a few minutes to get re-oriented before standing and dressing.
After your session you should increase your water intake. An extra glass or two more than normal are recommended. This will keep your body's tissues hydrated and will help flush waste through your system.

Sauna Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What Is Infrared?
A: Infrared is the band of light that we perceive as heat. This band of light can’t be seen with the naked eye, but can be felt in the form of heat. The sun produces most of its energy output in the infrared segment of the light spectrum. Infrared rays heat your body without having to heat the air inside the sauna, a process known as conversion.
The infrared bands inside the Sunlighten™ mPulse sauna are divided into 3 segments: near, middle, and far infrared. Each segment benefits the body in its own unique way. Sunlighten is the world’s FIRST and ONLY Full Spectrum infrared sauna.
Q: What should I wear?
A: A large bath towel and a robe will be provided and should remain between you and the wooden parts of the sauna at all times. Wear just your robe or towel, either is fine!
Q: How long does a sauna session last?
A: First time sauna users should spend 25-30 minutes in the sauna, while seasoned sauna users can spend up to 45 minutes. Do what feels best to you!
Q: Should I sauna before or after a massage?
A: There is no wrong way to sauna! A sauna session can be added as a warm-up before a massage or added at the end to complete the total relaxation experience.
Q: Who can benefit from an Infrared sauna?
A: Almost everyone can benefit from an Infrared sauna session. However, clients should receive a Doctor’s consent before use if they have any of the following existing conditions: Marked high or low blood pressure, overactive thyroid gland, any heart condition, type 1 diabetes, kidney dysfunction, fever, active infections, skin diseases, open wounds, shingles, pregnancy, prescribed medicines causing increased or decreased sensitivity to physical stimulation (for example antibiotics/pain killers), or severe varicose veins. When in doubt, it is always recommended to seek a Doctor’s or Health Practitioner’s advice first.
Q: Should I drink water before or after a session?
A: Yes. It is recommended to drink water before, during and after a session. This allows the body to stay fully hydrated and helps replaces fluids that have been lost during the session.
NOTE: No food or drink is allowed inside the sauna itself.
Q: What is Chromotherapy?
A: Chromotherapy is the science of using colors to adjust the vibrations and frequencies in the body which result in healing, health, and harmony. Pick from 15 different colors or fade from one to the next into all 15 colors.
Q: Can I use a tanning bed and infrared sauna on the same day?
A: It is not recommended. Tanning beds also emit infrared heat, for that reason it is possible to receive a burn or heat rash if both are undertaken on the same day. Tanning the day before or the day after is fine.
Q: Will I be alone or in group session for my sauna?
A: Your sauna sessions will be just you in a private room. You can sauna in a robe, a towel, or au naturale. Relax afterwards in a zero gravity chair and a faux fur blanket. Book a single sauna session and bring a spouse, partner, or BFF for an extra $5.00.
